From the Principal

At Open Afternoon last month, prospective students and their families were given the opportunity to view the school and meet and talk with the staff and principal.

This term has been another busy and exciting one in the life of our school. We have competed in many competitions such as Rock Eisteddfod, the Toowoomba Eisteddfod, debating, a wide range of sports and community service activities to name a few. Our Year 10 and 11 students have also been on camp and we have had the privilege of organising activities for local primary schools including the Year 6 Olympiad and a three-day writers workshop.

I believe it is this range of activities which helps teach our students many skills and processes which are useful in the classroom and beyond. Thinking and learning skills such as problemsolving, planning, organising, oral presentation and team work. They also teach many lessons about life dealing with disappointment and success, appreciating difference, experiencing unfamiliar situations.

At Harristown we have a holistic approach to school life, where we combine the teaching of core subjects with many other activities to improve the learning experience and extend the development of our students. This wide range of challenging learning activities would not be possible without the commitment and support of our staff and parents.
