Year 10 civics students visited the local law courts for an ‘immersion in the law’ experience recently. Toowoomba Registrar Mr Peter White facilitated the excursion, with students participating in courtroom role plays, listening to a guest speaker from the law courts, and sitting in on real cases before the local Magistrate.

Students were amazed at many of the things they saw, including a solicitor having his mobile phone confiscated by the Magistrate and several people appearing before the court and receiving their sentences. Students witnessed first-hand the serious consequences of breaking the law.
