School Nurse PDF Print E-mail
School-based Youth Health Nurse works as part of the school support team to address concerns about health and wellbeing and to connect people to other support services. The nurse can see young people in private to talk about issues such as health concerns, relationships, personal and family problems, smoking, alcohol or drug use, sexual health, feeling unhappy or stressed, puberty, growing up, healthy eating, exercise, weight and eating problems. Make an appointment during class time, before or after school or during your breaks.

The Youth Health Nurse works with students, school staff and parents to:

  • Address concerns or problems about health and wellbeing.
  • Create a more supportive, healthy school environment (a health promoting school).
  • Connect people to other support services inside and outside the school.
I see young people in private to talk about:
  • Health concerns.
  • Relationships.
  • Personal and family problems.
  • Smoking, alcohol or drug use.
  • Sexual health.
  • Feeling unhappy or stressed.
  • Puberty, growing up.
  • Healthy eating, exercise, weight and eating problems.
  • Anything that affects health and wellbeing.
I work within the school but am employed by Queensland Health. I am required to keep information confidential unless the young person agrees i can do otherwise. However, if the young person is at risk of being hurt or hurting someone else i am not able to keep this information confidential. This is always explained to the young person at the beginning of the consultation. In most cases, it is best for the young person to also talk to their parents about any problems or concerns they have, and i am able to help them do that.

As a general rule the Youth Health Nurse does not provide treatment eg: medications, injections, first - aid physical examinations on going counselling for psychological or educational problems.

I am located in (Q42) and can be contacted on (46368700)
