Harristown High’s Defence Transition Mentor (DTM) is a point of contact for children of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members. The purpose of the position is to facilitate the best possible educational outcomes for ADF families through the provision of on-site, direct and flexible assistance to children, parents, teachers and other support services.
The DTM is responsible for

appropriate welcoming and farewelling strategies for these young people;

providing support and encouragement as they manage the challenges of transition;

referring where necessary to appropriate student support services;

developing and implementing programs and resources that address student needs and issues;

providing support at school during times of parental absence from home for service requirements;

facilitating participation in cultural, sporting, academic and personal development programs;
-
raising awareness of Defence related issues facing these young people such as parental absence or relocation requirements.
